Zermatt boasts the best mountain restaurants in the world, they are second to none. We are happy to share a few of our favourites with you.
In the hamlet of Findeln you can find the Findlerhof or Franz and Heidi’s (a sensational vegetarian quiche), Chez Vrony (an awesome fish soup) and Heinz Julen’s famous furniture, Enzian, Adler (rotiserie chicken), and Paradies.
Fluhalp is another frequent haunt and while enjoying a warm lamb filet salad, or filet steak with fresh asparagus in a béarnaise sauce you can listen to your favourite hit played by the resident band, this is a must stop for St Patricks day.
Hotel Riffelalp is a five star hotel and provides a great lunch haven from the elements with blazing fire, comfy slippers and a top menu or, if the weather is good you can eat on the terrace where soup is served from a Swiss Army cauldron over an open fire and the desserts are to die for.
Alphitta just below Riffelalp has excellent Italian dishes and a large terrace looking up to the Matterhorn.
Ritty’s is tucked back in the trees just above the Furi lift station and has the best slope-side fondue and a truly Heidiesque setting.
Restaurant Farmerhaus in Furi is a great spot for larger parties where Regula will take care of your every need and let you run wild or you can sit on the spacious deck of Les Marmottes and feast on the wild game the hunters have brought in.
Restaurant Zum See
Zum See is set back in as small rustic hamlet and offers fantastic sweetbreads and a sublime apple Strudel. On colder days sit indoors on the round table and in March and April the outdoor terrace is a beautiful sun-trap (the raised table at the back).
Blatten is one of our favourites another rustic restaurant with old world charm, they do a sensational mushroom soup under a lid of puff pastry the Steinpiltzsuppe, the lamb Wellington is a must and if you have room left the “lovers meringues”. [/pane]
Staffelalp sits under the Matterhorn and has cosy lambs-wool chairs and a roaring fire, the sizzling steak on a hot stone is the dish of choice.
Cervina, accessible from Zermatt.
Bontadini next to the chairlift of the same name has a large self-service restaurant with fine Italian cuisine, downstairs tucked away is a small chic restaurant with sensational food, watch out for the squid pasta unless you like having black teeth.
Restaurant Chalet L’Etoile
Chalet L’Etoile is our favourite on the Italian side, Ula will look after you with her team of Swedish waitresses, she arrives early in the morning to make all the pasta and prepare the dishes, her trio di pasta is legendary and her seafood unmissable.
We can not only show you the best snow and skiing on the mountain but also book the best table, in the best restaurants and advise you on the house specialties from the menu and the wine card.
